1. Product Introduction
1.1 Product Description
Absorption is used to remove one or more gaseous components from a gas stream using a solvent.
First, a mixture of carbon dioxide and air is generated. The mixing ratio can be adjusted via valves. The flow rates of the gas components are displayed.
A compressor delivers the gas mixture to the lower section of the absorption column. In the column, some CO2 is separated from the solvent in a countercurrent flow. Water is used as the solvent. Carbon dioxide is absorbed by the downward-flowing water. To separate the absorbed carbon dioxide, charged water is then fed from the lower section of the absorption column into the desorption column. As the pressure decreases and the temperature increases, the solubility of CO2 decreases. A heater heats the water. A water jet pump creates negative pressure in the desorption column, causing CO2 gas to be expelled from the water. The pump then returns the regenerated solvent to the absorption column.
The water temperature is controllable. Flow rate, temperature, and pressure are continuously measured. Both column sections are equipped with connections for measuring pressure loss. Pressure loss in each section can be displayed using two U-tube manometers. To assess the success of the process, the trainer has gas and liquid sample collection outlets. Gas samples can be analyzed using the provided handheld measuring unit.
